"To arms, to arms, we must gather as many soldiers as we can, to fight those yankees back to their mouseholes, and then some!" The recruiter of the south shouted down to the group of men that rallied around him, though targeting it to the men passing by on the streets. The shouts of the gray soldiers filled the air as they lifted their fists in the air to cheer on the recruiter as he discriminated every inch of the northern boys, even the slaves. "If we are going to keep this nation alive, then we must destroy the DAMNED nation! For DIXIE!"
"Gather around, the rebels must be stopped! We came here for freedom, and we should give everyone the same! Are we going to sit around and let those southern boys keep helpless slaves captive?" The soldiers lifted their muskets as they returned the northern recruiter's message with loud and unison "NO"s. The recruiter smiled a bit as some male bystanders joined the group of soldiers in listening to him. "Then we must take back freedom, and take back our southern brethern! For the UNION!"
There are many views on war... Some hate it, some thirst for it, others believe it is the only way, while others believe it can be avoided. But this...Is a simpler time. When a war took place between the small ammount of states that America had... All because of Southern Rights, and Northern Beliefs. It was one of the bloodiest wars, with countless of hundred-thousands dead. It was no joke.
Women would wait for trains and carrier wagons, to bring back their beloved husbands and boyfriends, mothers would await their dearest son to return to care for them and take on the family buisness. Many of them never returned.
Court houses, doctern houses, and innocent bystander's homes would become home to the deceased soldiers, because there was no more room to place the dead, and the burials were delayed.
Even helpless citizens would be killed by stray bullets, have their houses destroyed by arrayed cannon balls, and have no where to go except to hide with the deceased.
Abraham Lincoln, the great president of the time in the North, was the first to call war on the south after the attack on Fort Sumter. It was enough that he didn't want the slavery to exist...But this attack angered him until the point that he called war.
On the south, was Jefferson Davis. He was always called controlling, a terrible war leader, and of course lacked a political party, as the south had none. But...He was rich, and money was power to him. One of the reasons that the only soldiers the south had to offer were poor and low-lifes, because the rich didn't want to 'get their hands dirty with the blood of lowlifes'. And of course, that they couldn't risk letting the rich die, because the funding would be gone.
It was a such a cruel war, and soldiers sang songs about it being such, but they kept their hopes alive with songs. From twisting the other sides songs, to changing the lyrics of Christmas song, and much more, it was almost the only thing that kept them fighting at times.
But now...You must decide, which side you're going to take... Be a soldier, be a nurse, or be an awaiting maiden, hoping that her husband, boyfriend, son, or simply a friend will return from the cruel tide of war unharmed by death's menacing touch.
The current battle is Bull Run.
